River Farm now the headquarters and demonstration area for the American Horticultural Society was once the northernmost of Washington's five farms. Today's River Farm is located on the northernmost division of that property.

Washington patiently pursued the acquisition of this property, he never actually lived on or worked it. He rented it out. The property stayed with the Washington family until the mid-1800s, almost a century after Washington purchased it.

Thank you for this wonderful information and comments. I love info that sheds a different slant on the assumed and believed history.

I like these little byways (or unpaved roads) of history.

I just recently found out how much Thomas Jefferson contributed to the University of VA and how very pround of this most UVA students are of this happy

Hi Cercis,
Oh, yes, Jefferson had his hand in VA U's pie as well as many others. I am looking forward to writing about him soon.
