Africans were rounded up and sold to any person with money.

The African slaves were property--plain and simple. To compare them to any other group of people on the idea that others also suffered is a stinking insult. Men and women were beaten within an inch of their death and some were murdered by beatings and torture to prove a point to the others. An industry sprung up around slavery. Private police complete with prisons in which slaves were broken became part of the legitimate system of the South. It was a horrible experience for the victims. There can be absolutely no defense of slavery on any grounds whatsoever.
