» Feature Writer Brian Tubbs - Congrats and Welcome

Congratulations on your appointment, John. In reading your bio, I find that you and I have very similar interests. Including the fact that we both prefer US history from the Revolutionary period through the Civil War.

I look forward to interacting with you and your readers over here - and learning from your articles and blogs.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I'll do my best to write intereting and thought provoking articles. I'm planning to start with Jamestown and work my way up from there somewhat chronologically, although I reserve the right to jump out of sequence to make a point, or make a deadline with something worthwhile if my timeline stalls which it probably will very quickly since I do not always have the time to get to the library every day.

You mention your involvement in Transportation History.
.
Interesting.
.
I've read and reread a book by James W. Carey, Communication As Culture--Essays on Media and Society, so often the binding has come loose. Not just on one copy; but, on two.
.
He compares communication with transporation and notes that the first mention of communication as a concept in history was with the ancient Egyptians as the pharaoh "communicated" his forces through out the land. And, he shows how the concept had to do with transporation in the earlier days of our society.

Transportation History is very interesting, and you and Carey are right transportation is in some ways related to communication, not as much in the modern world, but before the second half of the 19th Century all communication had to either be between two people in the same place, or written and transported to the correspondent. I might touch on this when I get to Benjamin Frankin and Post Roads.
