My favorite era is the transitional era between civil war era to modern era. When inventions transformed America. When the transcontinental railroad linked east to west. When America industrialized. When the wild west was tamed. When Carnegie built libraries across the country. Etc. From about 1860-1930 era, I find the most interesting. The industrial revolution through the depression. This era best helps us understand where we were and how we got to where we are now.

I don't know if I have a favorite; but, the completion of the Erie Canal has a lot to do with how I was born. One of my ancestors trekked to the end to the canal as did many others to find their fortune. As a result, I am here. It's fun to trace our ancestry and to compare it to historical times.

A very interesting period indeed. Of course, I like them all.

But, I'd have to say that the most interesting for me is the founding era - before the United States became a strong nation. People today take too much for granted. It helps to revisit and study our origins.
